LCLA training course. After a theory session in the morning we headed underground to put the skills into practice. Various hauling and rigging techniques were practiced.
After finishing day one of the training course we decided to go on a slightly harder trip. Route finding was our main problem on this trip. The trip through Cwm Dwr went fine with no major rout finding problems. When in OFD 1 we had a look at the stream, which was a raging torrent, we then backtracked and climbed up into the bypass route. A wrong well-worn left-hand turn was taken where two hours was spent in a big chamber looking for the way on. We were convinced we were on the right track because it was so well worn and there was a resident bat. Eventually after broadening our search we found the correct way on. After the bypass we found the OFD 1 entrance quite easily thanks to Bea who had visited this part of the cave the week before with Bridget.
More caving training. Impressive river cave. We were given a situation to overcome as a group. This being a trapped person the other side of the river down a 4m drop. All good fun was had and lots of practicing techniques.
