Andy's first trip to Yorkshire and first proper SRT trip. Andy did really well. Steady trip to GG main chamber. I gave Andy a litle bit of assistance (hauling) on the 30m pitch, just so he wasn't completely knackered for the entrance pitch. The entrance pitch was no problem at all. Ice creams at the show cave on the way back.
A lot of rain overnight and more forecast for today, so we opted for the dry route of Sell Gill. Fortunately we managed to avoid the rain on the walk up the hill. The dry-route was still quite wet and drippy. The y-hangs and re-belays were a bit more technical than what Andy had done before, but he did it all without any issue. The water crashing down the wet route at the bottom was an impressive sight.
We ended up going in the wrong entrance, which confused us for a bit. We went in the upstream side of the left-hand enclosure, followed this upstream and then went down Baptistry Crawl. We passed Dolly Tubs via the traverse route, which was a cool pitch. The view out over Alum Pot was as impressive as always. There were hundreds of people on guided groups in the main Alum Pot shaft, so we decided to head out. Andy used a Pantin for the first time up the Dolly Tubs pitch. We then exited via the Diccan Pot entrance.
